ERF Gearbox

ERF early models, many of which are still in use, are fitted with the Eaton RTX11609A 9-speed gearbox. This then progressed to the TSO11612 12-speed twin splitter gearbox, which was used as both overdrive and direct application.

Next to come along was the Eaton S-series which was a fully synchronised unit and was used in all the later models right up to the company's amalgamation with MAN Trucks. This box was Eaton's first 16-speed gearbox and with synchronisation on all gears which was their attempt to gain market share against ZF. ERF remained faithful to Eaton for many years but due to consumer pressure switched to the ZF Gearbox in its heavier models.

ERF Differential

As with the transmissions ERF used the Eaton axle range for many years. Before the onset of the splitter and range gearboxes the Eaton two speed diff offered the operator the option of doubling his gear ratios through the axle rather than the gearbox giving the vehicle greater versatility in all situations. The most popular models were the Eaton 18220 and in the tractor units the Eaton 19220. As ZF began to take the transmission market away from Eaton with their splitter gearboxes, ERF also moved their axle business away from Eaton. They began to use the Rockwell diff. Rockwell offered the R180, S180, S160, and in the double drive application fitted the SSHD, later models using the Rockwell 153E.

ERF Power Steering

Power steering has been amongst our product range for a number of years where we offer all popular ZF and TRW steering boxes that are fitted throughout the entire ERF series of vehicles.

ERF Propshaft

To complete the range of replacement transmission parts, we stock all makes of Propshafts to suit all ERF current production and to complement this we hold all universal joints and centre support bearings.
